An interesting 18th century woodblock-print of ‘Japanese Chinese Sentence Maneuvers’ in both handwritten and typeset format written by Kagami Shiko. Shiko’s book is a collection of short pieces of prose and poetry with commentary.
Kagami Shikoo 各務支考 a Japanese poet and writer was one of the top 10 disciples of Matsuo Basho, the most famous poet in the Edo era of Japan. He popularized Basho’s work, making the Haiku a form of poetry to be desired and idolized in Japan, often being known as a Haiku theoretician.
This rare 1727 edition is written in a column format with furigana usage for easier reading. This seven-volume woodblock print includes several illustrations throughout!
