Near East / Turkey, Anatolia, Bronze Age, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A fascinating cast bronze rhyton with two relief figures of standing bulls parading around its surface. The conical vessel stands on a flat, disc-like foot. The rhyton form is ancient, developed from a drinking horn, and first seen in Iran during the Amlash period around 1000 BCE. It requires total devotion to drinking, as it has no feet or stopper, so must be held constantly when full of liquid. The bulls on the side symbolized virility and strength. Size: 2.75" W x 2.45" H (7 cm x 6.2 cm)
