Description
Large watercolor on paper, "The Coming of Autumn", showing a scene in the village of Moniaive, in Dumfries and Galloway, (South-West Scotland,) with sheep near a stone wall under towering autumn trees, by Scottish artist James Paterson. Paterson visited Moniave in 1879 and was so inspired to paint its scenery that he moved to the area in 1884, staying 22 years. Signed lower left, with the location "Moniave" noted, and dated 1895. Frame, approx. 37 3/4" x 29 1/2". Sight, approx. 27" x 20 1/4".
