Winston Churchill Important ALS on What Would Become Israel
Single page autographed letter signed on War Office, Whitehall letterhead, 5" x 8". Dated "August 5, 1920", and signed by Winston Churchill in full signature "Winston S. Churchill". Presented framed with the original mailing envelope written in the hand of Churchill, and accompanied by a Wedgewood portrait of Winston Churchill on a dish. Matted with a silk mat, framed and glazed to an overall size of 27" x 13".
The letter is on embossed on Whitehall stationary and reads in full:
"My Dear Mr. McCrackan
Please accept my warmest thanks for your letter of July 28th. It is most gratifying to read this impartial testimony to the merits of our administration in Palestine, and I am circulating it to my colleagues in the cabinet who will I know read it with keen appreciation and pleasure. Believe me yours sincerely
Winton S. Churchill"
The writing is light in parts but fully readable, this is the only letter we know of on this sensitive topic. Great Britain would famously relinquish their relationship with Palestine and Israel will become a state in 1948.
