Description
DESCRIPTION: "Vase of Flowers," 1947, oil on canvas signed lower right and signed and dated on the verso. Nahum Tschacbasov was born into a Jewish family from Baku, Azerbaijan and emigrated to the U.S. with his family to Chicago at an early age, later settling in New York. His social group of friends were fellow artists, including Philip Evergood, Milton Avery, Stuart Davis, David Burliuk, William Gropper, the Soyer brothers, Robert Gwathmey, Marsden Hartley, and Max Weber. Along with artists Mark Rothko and Adolph Gottlieb, Tschacbasov was one of the original founders of the artist's group "The Ten."
