AN IMPERIAL RUSSIAN NAMED UNIFORM GROUP OF THE COMMANDER OF THE 2ND FRONTIER GUARD REGIMENT, CIRCA 1910.  Formerly the property of Colonel Adolf Edwardich Gahlnbeck  Blue wool double breasted tunic with green collar, cuffs and piping.  Collar and cuffs with gold bullion Litzen and buttons on a blue field.  Left chest with tailored hole for award.  Reverse has piped false pocket flaps with buttons.  Complete with gold metal shoulder scales with bullion fringe and unit designation (2?).  Group further includes a bandolier with gold eagle badge applied to the silvered metal flap of the cartridge pouch and gold braid sling piped green, and an officer's silver braid mixed with Romanov colors.  Provenance: Butterfield, Feb 23, 1998, Lot 6189. Colonel Adolf Edward Gahlnbeck was born in Moscow in 1864 and died in San Fransisco California in 1946 where he had immigrated with his wife and two children in 1923. He become a citizen in the year 1931. A brief story of his life including his service in the Imperial Russian Army and his harrowing escape from revolutionary Russia is told in an affidavit by his daughter Irene Gahlnbeck Field written in January of 1998, a copy of which accompanies this lot. The offered lot was consigned by Irene Gahlnbeck Field to Butterfields Auction House in 1998 where it was acquired by the present owner, Dr. Brad LeMay.
