A BRASS SHRINE DEPICTING DURGA SLAYING THE BUFFALO DEMON (MAHISASURAMARDINI), WESTERN INDIA, CIRCA 15TH/16TH CENTURY, the four-armed goddess wielding trident, sword and shield, the demon emerging from the decapitated buffalo, while her lion attacks it from the rear, flanked by a pair of columns, an arch above surmounted by a kalasa 15cm; 6in high Provenance: Collection of the Late Andrew Solomon, London, inv. no. A92. Purchased from Toby Jack, 29 March 1975.
