Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A quartet of charming blown glass vessels, each made to hold perfumes, unguents, or other personal items for ancient Romans. Each features an elongated lower body, a thin neck, and a flaring mouth with rolled rim; each also has a ribbed surface. One has a beautiful orange-cream pearlescence. Size of largest (though all are fairly similar in size): 1.55" W x 2.8" H (3.9 cm x 7.1 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

All four are intact, with some small surface scratches and light wear commensurate with age. All have deposits on their surfaces and one has a remarkable pearlescence. All four have pontil marks. Vessel possesses a pontil scar or mark which indicates that the vessel was free-blown. (The absence of such a mark would suggest that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or worn away over time.)
