**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco/Colima, Autlan type, post-Classic era, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A touching statue of of a mother holding her newborn to her breast in her right arm. She places her left hand over her abdominal area, just above her womb which is accentuated by an incised pubic triangle framed by wide hips. Her visage is tranquil with closed eyes and slightly parted lips. She wears a large shell necklace and ear ornaments visible before her shoulder-length coiffure with that marvelous crested detail adorning the center part. An endearing piece that highlights the maternal bond. Size: 7.375" H (18.7 cm); 8.25" H (21 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
