**First Time At Auction**
Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. Hand-painted on heavy gauge tin, a lovely retablo featuring the Virgin Mary as "Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria" and set in a finely-aged wooden frame. The crowned Mary stands with a red-and-blue robe, holes a lit candle in one hand, and supports the Christ Child in her other arm. She is shown in front of an "anima sola," or a lonesome departed ancestral soul, surrounded by the flames of purgatory while they await their judgment. Size (retablo): 5.4" W x 8.625" H (13.7 cm x 21.9 cm); (frame): 7.6" W x 10.4" H (19.3 cm x 26.4 cm).

Condition
Slight bending to overall form of retablo, with light fading to original pigmentation, and encrustations and loosening to wooden frame slats, otherwise intact and very good. Nice age-commensurate patina to retablo and wooden frame. Mounted with metal loop screws and wire on verso for mounting.
