Description
1766 Shakespeare Plays FOULIS Famous Alexander Pope Taming of Shrew Macbeth 7v Theater
“The remarkable thing about Shakespeare is that he is really very good – in spite of all the people who say he is very good.”
Robert Graves
A rare 18th-century, nine-volume set of the famous plays of William Shakespeare. This famous edition was made by Alexander Pope which helped regularize and standardize Shakespearean verse. Pope curiously edited out much of Shakespeare’s verses to make clearer many of the plays themselves. First published in 1725, Pope’s edition would influence Shakespeare commentary and performances for centuries.
