Description
1846 1ed Slavery Abolition Slave Power Correspondence Palfrey Appleton Texas

The book ‘Correspondence’ was intended as a supplement to John Palfrey’s pamphlet on slave power. Nathan Appleton received a letter from his friends, Charles F. Adams, John G. Palfrey and Charles Sumner asking his co-operation relating to the admission of Texas. However, as Texas had already been admitted into the Union, he thought this pointless. Palfrey's pamphlet originally appeared anonymously in the Boston Daily Whig with Appleton’s response printed in it and subsequently being blamed for causing Washington to move into the Mexican War.

This 1846 booklet is Appleton’s attempt to give proper prospective to the printing by printing all the letters and correspondence involved.
