Provenance: recent Mark Rucker collection, previously the Bjurstrom Publicity Agency Collection. Scotty Bjurstrom lived a wonderful life. He spent his working days first with his camera, recording images of movie stars, performing artists and celebrities of all kinds in the booming city of Chicago. Night club acts, dance groups, ballet companies, aspiring singers and musicians, both white and black, were all part of Bjurstrom's retinue. In this Mad-Man era of the 1940s and 1950s in Chicago Bjurstrom became more than a publicity photographer for the Chicago Herald American as he developed the Scotty Bjurstrom Agency. In this business he acted as president and chief publicist for one of the foremost companies of its kind in the City. His photographic files covered every aspect of entertainment coming and going in Chicago. When I first met Scotty he was retired and living in a suburb of Denver in 1998. I heard some fascinating stores of his rollicking business, as he showed me the baseball photo files he wanted to sell me. After his death in 2000, I was able to purchase the remainder of the files in 2001, which are described here-Mark Rucker.
