Description
Signed lower right M. J. Heade (Martin Johnson Heade, 1819 -1904, New York, California, Florida, Brazil). This specific painting is not included in the Stebbins catalog Raisonne, but Heade was known to paint multiple red rose still lifes with the cut glass tumbler on the curly maple edged table from approximately 1883 through the 1890's. There is slight paint flaking below the lower rose and with frame scraping all around. Period canvas and stretcher in a 1950's frame. Needs cleaning and careful conservation. Painting is 14 1/8" high, 10 1/8" wide. Frame is 19 3/4" high, 15 7/8" wide. NOTE: For this item, we would prefer that interested bidders examine it in person or send a trusted adviser to examine. We have received a conditional letter of approval from Dr. Theodore Stebbins, the author of the Heade catalog raisonne and an accepted authority for Heade's works. The letter, at this time, is conditional until such time Dr. Stebbins can examine it personally. All sales are subject to Bremo Auctions Terms & Conditions. Please review before bidding.
