T. Roosevelt's Father Endorses a Bank Document When the Future President Was Only 12
Rare Autograph Endorsement Signed "Theodore Roosevelt" on verso, 1p, 8.5" x 4.25". New York, July 28, 1871. Partly Printed Document Signed "G.G. Williams" as Cashier. Certificate of Deposit completed in manuscript. Pencil markings, minor tears and creases. Bank "X" cut cancellation just nicks final "t" of signature. Good condition.
In full, "Theodore Roosevelt has deposited in The Chemical National Bank of New York One hundred Dollars to the credit of himself payable on return of this Certificate properly endorsed."
Endorsed on verso "Pay to the order of / Mr A Burbank / Theodore Roosevelt." Signed "A. Burbank / By W.P. Burbank" with second endorsement at Pittsfield National Bank; bank stamping touches final "R" stroke of signature. Previous owner has lightly penciled a rectangle around Roosevelt's signature.
Theodore Roosevelt (1831-1878) and Martha Bulloch (1834-1884) were married on December 22, 1853. Their son, future 26th President Theodore Roosevelt, was born on October 27, 1858.
