Description
Gladiolas Bouquet is an original oil on canvas painting by Adele McGinnis Herter (1869-1946). Signed on lower left corner and has artist plaque on frame. Beautiful floral painting of a bouquet of flowers in a porcelain vase and on tablecloth. Colorful with variations of purple hues. Once part of a private Collection from Mass, Herter is known for her soothing florals as well as portraits of prominent people of her time including Abby Rockefeller (Wife of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.). Friends, In 1911, Rockefeller and Herter were 2 of the 7 women that signed the Certificate of Incorporation for the New York Women's Cosmopolitan Club. In 1929, Herter became one of the Founders of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Herter was exhibited and received awards for her work including the Pan-American Exposition in 1901 and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904). Herter paintings have sold for over $10,000 in past auctions. Measurements: from Canvas edge on verso 20 inches X 16 inches. Frame is approximately 25.5 X 21.5 inches.
Condition
Very good condition. As often seen with older paintings, very small craqueletures and canvas lines seen under examination via close inspection with natural eye and with UV light. Orignial signature on bottom left is clear with no paint loss. Frame and lining are both in good condition. Frame is gold colored and also has a plaque center of bottom of frame reads "Adele E. Herter (1869-1946).
