George III Mahogany Writing Slope

fourth quarter 18th century, the rounded rectangular top with a lower rail, the angle and height both adjustable, and raised on a turned and bulbous standard to three splayed legs.

**In good polished and restored condition. The top exhibits scattered stains and mars beneath the surface. The piece shows normal shrinkage, mars and wear.

The height adjustment mechanism is functional. The brass piece to secure it is a replacement that just extends in to one side, rather than a pin that extends through both sides of the adjustable sleeve. The latter would be more secure but the former is functional.

Sturdy and solid with no movement observed in the legs.

There is a re-glued vertical lamination seam on the pedestal.

The legs each exhibit a professionally repaired break near its top. Iron reinforcement straps have been added to the underside of two of the legs.
