FRANZ JOSEPH I OF AUSTRIA: (1830-1916) Emperor of Austria & King of Hungary 1848-1916. A good L.S., Franciscus Josephus, one page, large folio, Ischl, 20th July 1906, to Tomas Cuban President Estrada Palma, in Latin. Franz Joseph acknowledges good receipt of his correspondent´s letter and congratulates him, further referring to the friendship between the Cuban Republic and the Austrian Empire which he wishes to reinforce stating `…quod relationes bonas inter Imperium Austro Hungaricum atque Rempublicam Cubanam non solum conservare verum etiam promovere poterit..´ Folded. Small overall minor age wear, staining to edges, with a hole at the base alongside the remnants of a former red wax seal, although repaired to the verso, not affecting the signature. About G £200-300 Tomas Estrada Palma (1835-1908) First President of Cuba 1902-1906, and previously during the Ten Year´s War. Remembered for allowing the Platt Amendment which ensured American dominance over Cuba. Tomas Estrada was re-elected in 1905, although resigned in September 1906, two months after the present letter was signed.
