Description
Circa 1835 Augusta, Georgia by Silcox and Brothers. Signed at the top of the interior Silcox and Brothers Augusta Geo. The piece having nicely figured mahogany case with molded top and paneled doors housing shelves within. The lower case having a fold out writing surface above slightly graduated drawers and resting atop French feet. Secondary wood is tulip poplar and white pine. Silcox and Brothers is seen in the 1940 printing of The Augusta Daily Chronicle & Sentinel February 10 image I. The classified ad lists the firm to offer and produce fine cabinets, chairs and sideboard of the latest patterns in New York. Offering work in curreld and birds eye maple and figured wood.
