Significant Early Canadian History, 2-Vol. 1st Edition Signed "Quebec Papers" by Francis Maseres

2-volume set of eighteenth-century first edition books by Francis Maseres, including one volume signed by the author as "Baron Maseres" on the full title page. Volume 1 is An Account of the Proceedings of the British and other Protestant Inhabitants of the Province of Quebeck, in North America, in order to Obtain a House of Assembly in that Province (1775). Along with Volume 2, Additional Papers Concerning the Province of Quebeck: Being an Appendix .... (1776). The second volume is signed by the author as Baron Maseres. Both volumes are contained in a handsome custom blue leather and linen case prepared by Atmore Beach. 8vo.

Francis Maseres served as Attorney General to Quebec from 1766 to 1769. He played an active role in the affairs of the province and wrote several pamphlets on the legal and political administration of Quebec. "Known as the Quebec Papers, An Account Of The Proceedings is perhaps the most important of all Maseres’s contributions to Canadian history, and contains original material pertaining to early British rule in Canada" (Lande). Included here are the text of the Quebec Act of 1774, as well as the numerous petitions and addresses to the British Ministry from both the French Catholic and English Protestant inhabitants of the province.
