Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong famille rose magpie & prunus porcelain brush washer. The porcelain potted within a brush washer, of a shallow body, deep vessel, wide cavetto on the mid, with a straight opening lip, raised on a small flat round and slightly raised concave footing. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrasts against the Famille rose design color. Famille rose hand painting depicted vividly hand painted in enamel design, famille rose translates to the pink family, on a colored ground decoration. Each bulging sides enclosing colorful falangcai, famille rose on a colored ground decoration, of BaJiXiang. The exterior decorated magpie bird hanging on the branch among abundant prunus flowers blooms, interspersed fresh green foliage. The magpie is universally admired for its intelligence and guile but it can be a nuisance to farmers. In China, it has a positive connotation, a harbinger of joy and as such a magpie is used in paintings to wish someone joy as Xi means glad, joy, happiness. If the character is shown upside down, like fu, good fortune, it means happiness is arriving. And The botanically correct name is Prunus Mume. If we want to be more precise I think a better name is plum blossom or meihua in Chinese. Because the flowers emerge before the leaves and it takes a long time to come into flower it is associated with longevity. It is often shown with a crane, another symbol of longevity; with a ruyi is a wish for a peaceful, long life. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
