Following is the obituary of the artist, submitted by Marilyn Weldin and published in the Star-Ledger of Somerset, New Jersey on February 11, 2012Mr. Frank Zuccarelli of Somerset, N.J., died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in the New Jersey Eastern Star Home, Bridgewater, N.J.. He was 90. Interment will be in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Waretown, N.J. Born in Olyphant, Pa., and raised in Bound Brook, N.J., Mr. Zuccarelli lived in New Brunswick, N.J., before moving to Somerset in 1961. Mr. Zuccarelli served with the Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Somerset Presbyterian Church. Frank received his formal art education at Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and his B.A. from Kean University. He was named a "master pastelist" by the Pastel Society of America and was a member of the Salmagundi Club, American Artists Professional League, Allied Artists, and the Hudson Valley Art Association. His paintings have appeared in numerous publications and have been exhibited nationally as well as in Canada, France, Italy, Russia, and China.Mr. Zuccarelli had done extensive work for the U.S. Navy Combat Art Collection inWashington, D.C., receiving the Louis E. Seley NACAL Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in oil painting as one of his many awards. In 1975, he participated in the Apollo-Soyuz splashdown and recovery by providing numerous paintings and sketches while aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. New Orleans. His paintings for the Navy were done through the Salmagundi Club in New York. Mr. Zuccarelli served as the official artist of the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1981. In November 1997, he was asked to visit China as an exchange of artists from the Pastel Society of America. Mr. Zuccarelli was a descendant of the 18th century artist Francisco Zuccarelli, one of the founding fathers of the British Royal Academy whose paintings now hang at the Windsor Castle and major museums in England and Italy. Mr. Zuccarelli was inducted into the Bound Brook High School Hall of Fame in the fall of 2003.He is listed in Who's Who in American Art, and the 16th Edition Dictionary of International Biography, Volume XI, and there is a Frank E. Zuccarelli Collection in the Library of Congress. Mr. Zuccarelli was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Maria; his brothers, Anthony, Samuel, Joseph, John, James, and Peter, and a sister, Rose Mickulick. He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Clifton) Zuccarelli; his sister, Marietta Rodriguez and her husband, Anibal, of Bound Brook, N.J.; his sister-in-law, Amelia Zuccarelli of Middlesex, N.J., as well as many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to either Somerset Presbyterian Church, 100 JFK Blvd., Somerset, N.J. 08873 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 196 Princeton Hightstown Road, Princeton Junction, N.J.
