1976 Cook Islands Proof Set with Silver $5 No OGP, no COA . Minted at the Franklin Mint . Each of the 1976 coins of the Cook Islands bears an original design reflecting the natural riches and the Polynesian heritage of the islands. The five-dollar coin, minted in .500 fine silver, portrays the Mangaia kingfisher - a fascinating bird found only in the Cook Islands. The ancient god Tangoroa, encircled by stars representing the 15 Cook Islands, is shown one the one-dollar coin. The bonito, a game fish that is also commercially valuable , is shown on the fifty-cent piece. And the magnificent Pacific Triton seashell, used by Cook Islanders in the past for religious rites, appears on the twenty-cent piece. Oranges in a cluster of ten leaves are depicted on the ten-cent coin. A variety of the graceful hibiscus with five petals appears on the five-cent piece, two pineapples on two-cent coin and leaf of the taro plant on the one-cent coin.
