Joseph Priestley, English Author and Chemist, Historically Credited With the Discovery of Oxygen, Autograph Letter Signed "J. Priestley" /B Two pages, 6.5" x 8", no place, no date. The letter is primarily literary sending thanks for "the Communications from the Envoys... [I] like their Reply very much. Dr. Ross also brought me Mr. Necker's [Jacques Necker, French finance minister] late work which I think very judicious...Time and Experience will be our best teachers...". Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) was an English theologian, natural philosopher, chemist, political theorist and teacher who published over 150 works. He has historically been credited with the discovery of oxygen however several of his contemporaries also take credit. Condition: Light toning and flattened mail folds. Minor soiling and some dampstaining at the left edge. Slightly rough left vertical edge. Small pencil notation at the top left corner.
