Tempera on Upson Board Overall , 14" H x 22.5" W, window 8.5" H x 17" W, signed, Austin, vertically, l.r, John Austin (1918-2001) was a graduate of the Art Students League of New York after the war, he studied with Reginald Marsh, William Zorach, John Groth, Robert Henri, and landscape instructor Julian Levy. He also studied for two seasons with Edward Hopper on Cape Cod, where Hopper summered in South Truro. His photo-realist paintings captured the laid back Nantucket of the 1970's thru 1990's. He was especially drawn to decay, rust, old cars and buildings.
