1728 Baskett BIBLE & Book of Common Prayer English Psalms USA PROVENANCE
In 1712, John Baskett began printing the Book of Common Prayer, shortly after the success of the 1710 New Testament. Baskett was the printer to the king during the first half of the 18th-century. This 1728 example is notably rare – it is bound with Baskett’s own Holy Bible and Sternhold’s Book of Psalms.

This book may have belonged to George Kirby Gay (1810 – 1882) was an English sailor and later settler in the Oregon Country. He was a member of the Willamette Cattle Company that brought livestock to Oregon and built the first brick house in the United States west of the Rocky Mountains. Gay also participated in the Champoeg Meetings that created a provisional government in what would become the U.S. state of Oregon.
