First quarter 20th century, 62 x 126 cm, Central Asia, South Tibet
A saddle bottom rug composed of two trapezoid halves woven separately and joined at the centre using a felt fabric. The red-brown fields each contain a pink disc medallion which is completely filled by a crane spreading its wings. It is surrounded by three flowering vases and a large stem with scrolled ends. The salmon border is decorated with cloudbands, vases, scrolls, chessboards, crosses and floral sprays. - Good condition, edged with a red fabric all around, backed with a blue fabric on the reverse.
