Item Details
Description
First quarter 20th century, 61 x 111 cm, Central Asia, South Tibet

The two halves of this saddle bottom were woven separately and sewn up directly along the centre. As a result, the field and border designs merge almost seamlessly. Two large brown vases, with a floral spray growing from each, are aligned in opposite directions in the light blue field. The devices stand out like reliefs from the field ground which has been cut somewhat shorter. In the sand-coloured border, the vine decorated with flowers displays the same relief effect. – Very good condition, red fabric edging, backed with a light brown fabric on the reverse.
