Description
A group of lamps and an amphora from Egypt. Lot includes a pair of Hellenistic - early Roman types, c. 1st Century BC - 1st Century AD, one with raised decoration around the shoulder, L: 3 1/4 in (8.3 cm), the other fragmentary. The third lamp is a Roman type, c. 3rd Century AD, with raised ventral area around the concave discus which is adorned with petals or tongues, handle unpierced and low ring foot, L: 3 7/8 in (9.8 cm). Last is a nice Roman squat amphora, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD, fashioned for hanging, the body adorned with horizontal grooves, mouth narrow and flanked by loop handles, 3 x 3 1/2 in (7.6 x 8.9 cm). Three nice examples with light deposits, one fragmentary. Ex Iskander family collection, acquired prior to 1969; thence by descent.
