Description
A pair of Inca spondylus shell figures, c. AD 1300 - 1500, likely protective religious charms. The man is finely carved with defined facial features and arms crossed, L: 3 cm, and the llama quite cute with alert ears, 3.1 x 2.7 cm. The male figure with old collection notes on back, the llama appears to have a small drilled hole in center, possibly a decorative clothes application. Ex collection of Prof. Theodore Gaster; Ex Florida private collection acquired from the estate of Prof. Gaster in 1992.
