Description
1793 Japanese Mathematics Equations Illustrated Algorithms Kazuyuki Woodblock
An interesting Edo and Meiji woodblock-print of ‘Old and New Algorithms’ written by Sawaguchi Kazuyuki. Kazuyuki pointed out that equations could have more than one root, but he left unanswered difficult problems involving simultaneous equations of the nth degree. The books presented problems that could not only be solved with only the four arithmetical operations using the soroban like in Jinkoki, but ones that were further advanced and could not be solved even today without using algebraic equations.
This rare 1793 edition deals specifically with the extraction of the square root and extraction of cubic root utilizing the traditional calculator called soroban and abacus. It is written in a column handwritten format with furigana usage for easier reading. This volume contains excellent illustrations throughout of different graphs and charts and geometrical shapes!
