Description
1875 1st Expressman & Detective Allan Pinkerton Crime Fiction Novel Illustrated
Allan Pinkerton was the first private detective and established the Pinkerton National Detective Agency after serving Abraham Lincoln as head of the Union Intelligence Service, the precursor to the U.S. Secret Service, in the Civil War. The Pinkerton logo, the All-Seeing Eye, inspired the phrase "Private Eye". He prevented an assassination of Lincoln, solved multiple train robberies, and was paid to track down the Jesse James Gang, which was considered his biggest failure.
‘The Expressman and the Detective’ is the first in Allan Pinkerton’s detective series. The detective stories Pinkerton wrote were based in part on his own experiences and those of his agents. This first detective story recounts the unraveling of a case of theft involving an Alabama banking express mail service.
