Japanese Satsuma style earthenware vase, Meiji Period, the high shouldered ovoid body tapering inward to a rolled rim and decorated with a continuous scene of poets and sages at a gathering with mythical heroes in a simulation of the founding of Japan, unsigned, 14.5"h Provenance: Estate of Frank J. Caufield (San Francisco, CA). Mr. Caufield was one of the founding partners of the venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins Caufield, and Byers.
