Description
A Matching Pair of Crow Parfleche Envelopes c. 1885 rawhide, pigments, hide ties Painted with a bold pattern in typical colors and outlined in dark blue, these cases were made to store food, clothing and other personal items. They are tied as they might be secured when moving camp. While they were made in pairs, it is quite unusual to find a pair remaining together today. Provenance: Descended through the family of Elizabeth "Myrtle Pretty Coos" Smart Enemy who was born to Stanislaw Hears Every Way and Ruth Whiteman of the Big Lodge Clan on October 16, 1909. For a time before her death on February 14, 2009 she was the oldest know living member of the Crow.
