A nice museum replica of a Costa Rican metate. A faithful copy in hydro stone or a similar material of an original type, which would have been carved in volcanic stone and date from AD 900 - 1100. The grinding bowl is comprised of four nicely styled figures supporting a shallow dish atop their heads. 5 ¼ x 7 ¾ in. (10.7 x 19.7 cm).
