Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Won Suk Yun (Korean, 1922-2003), "Fish", ca. 1960s. A very fine print of Korean artist Won Suk Yun' pencil drawing of fish, demonstrating the artist's hyperrealist style and refined skills. A wonderful piece from this almost forgotten artist. Size: 15.25" W x 10.25" H (38.7 cm x 26 cm)
Born in what is now North Korea, Won Suk Yun studied art in Japan in the 1930s at the Kawabata Art School in Tokyo. Following Korea's liberation from Japanese rule in 1945, he moved to Seoul and earned his living drawing portraits. That same year he had his first exhibition at the United States Information Service.
Won Suk Yun's drawings have sold for tens of thousands at auction. Most recently, his "Garlics" hammered at $32,300 at Seoul Auction (South Korea), 29 June 2016.
Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; a gift from the artist acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
