Description

Wonderfully whimsical deep dish by California modernist studio potter Adolf Oderfer.
Oderfer (1902 - 1995) emigrated to the U.S. from Vienna, where he graduated from the Wienerberger-Werkstättenschule für Keramik. He eventually became a professor of ceramics at California State University at Fresno.
Oderfer combined a modernist sensibility with colorful and whimsical motifs. This hand thrown deep dish is glazed in a rust/tan, with green overspray on the inside. The lion design is done in a light, bright green.
Measures about 6 1/8" diameter by 1 1/2" deep. Signed with Oderfer's A in a circle mark. Excellent condition.
