Description
This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the strong constructivist style of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy (Hungarian, 1895-1946). Image depicts a bold arrangement of dark and fluorescent rectangles, painstakingly overlaid with a visible consideration for space, colory theory, and experimentation. A hand-painted inscription at lower right reads, "Moholy-Nagy". This vibrant piece would be an excellent addition to any modern art collection. Overall framed dimensions measure approximately 22" x 18". Image sight measures approximately 17.5" x 13.5".
Reverse side of piece features various stamps and one affixed paper label, which reads "Mr. L. Moholy-Nagy" in elegant cursive. A London address can be noted at lower right corner of label. An ink stamp reads, "Please return to the Department of Public Information. The Museum of Modern Art. 21 West 53rd St., New York." And, lastly, an ink stamp at lower right corner bears the name of the Howard Wise Gallery (New York) and attributes the work to Laszlo Moholy-Nagy.
