This lot consists of a colored pencil illustration on paper, done in the modern style of Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954). "Frida Kahlo 1944" is handwritten at lower right corner.This beautifully detailed image portrays a super-sized bird lying belly-up at the top of a tree. This unframed piece measures approximately 16" x 11".
Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954) is well known for her self-portraits, which incorporate color and surrealism in a way that is all her own. Her artwork is recognizable for its splendorous color and naive stylization, but holds a depth and a pain that many viewers can truly connect with. Though largely confined in life by her physical ailments, Frida Kahlo was prolific, politically active, and a deeply passionate individual.

Condition
Overall fair condition. Some light chipping and toning has occurred with age. One notable tear at right edge of picture. The image itself remains bold and rich. Please see photos for further reference.
