Description
Charming Rookwood Limoges style covered dish, shape 199, from 1882 with decorated lid, quite possibly by Maria Longworth Nichols, featuring a scene of two rabbits cuddling under a crescent moon while an ominous spider lurks on the other side of the twist finial. The lower part of the dish is a casting with a basket weave pattern and hand applied twist handles. The base is marked “Rookwood 1882” and “G” for ginger clay. Height is 4 3/8 inches and width is 10 3/8 inches. Remarkable original condition with faint overall crazing and two unobtrusive pin head size chips on the inner rim of the base. Nichols was fond of putting bunnies and spiders on her work.
