Description
David Ben-Gurion Signed Israel's 20th Anniversary First Day Cover, Handsomely Presented
First Day of Issue postal cover signed by Israeli statesman David Ben-Gurion (1886-1973) as "D. Ben-Gurion" at center. The envelope is in a floating mount to the right of a black and white portrait of the leader, and above an engraved name plate, all matted and framed behind glass. Both the preprinted mosaic cachet at lower left and the Israeli postage stamps commemorate Israel’s 20th Anniversary of Independence. Postmarked from Jerusalem on April 24, 1968. Near fine. Not examined out of the frame. The envelope measures 7" x 4.125". Two adhesive labels from Memorabilia, Ltd. (Rancho La Costa, California) are located verso, one of which is a guarantee. The gilt frame shows isolated surface loss. Overall frame size: 20.125" x 13.125" x 1.25".
David Ben-Gurion, "Israel's founding father", was an integral part of the Israeli independence movement. He helped compose the Israeli Declaration of Independence, and, as Chairman of the Provisional State Council of Israel and its Minister of Defense, proclaimed the free state of Israel on the same day that the postwar British mandate expired: May 14, 1948.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
