SIGNED "MacArthur: His Rendezvous with History", Signed by both MacArthur & Courtney Whitney, Author
"MacArthur: His Rendezvous with History", by Major General Courtney Whitney
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1955. Cloth. SIGNED by Douglas MacArthur and INSCRIBED by the author, Major General Courtney Whitney, just below MacArthur's signature on the front free end paper. A very solid copy of this 1956 early (but not 1st) edition. Tight and VG+ (minor bumping to the front tips) in a crisp, price-intact ("$6.75"), VG+ dust jacket, with very light chipping --and just a touch of creasing-- along the panel edges and the flap-folds. Thick octavo, 547 pp. plus index. Major General Whitney, an "Army commander during World War II who later served under MacArthur as a senior official during the occupation of Japan", here "reproduces in full or in substantial part many hitherto unpublished communications to and from Washington, especially to and from the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Pentagon, so that the reader may judge for himself the orders MacArthur received and how he carried them out" Very Good + / Very Good +.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
