Description
Rare Wrought Iron Slave Collar With Metal Bells Ca. 1750-1840
Crafted out of wrought iron, measuring approximately 4.75” x 4”, this very sad artifact was likely used around the neck of a female or child slave to prevent them from running away, as it sounds an alarm with movement. The sound mechanism is created by small balls of metal (3 small balls), placed inside the folded metal opening, creating a jingling sound when in motion. It is possible that it could have been used as a man’s ankle cuff, but it is more likely the previously described use.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
