This Revolutionary War Era relic souvenir is a 1" x. .5" piece of wood chipped the Washington Sentry Chestnut Tree, with a small ring attachment, attributed to be from Washington's Headquarters in Strafford, PA. It is know that after the defeat at the battle of Brandywine, General George Washington's Continental Army retreated toward Philadelphia, crossed the Schuylkill River and then camped at Strafford, Pennsylvania creating a Sentry platform built in this huge Chestnut tree so as to observe the British enemy troop movements. The trunk section of the huge "Sentinel" tree as it became known, was saved from destruction in the 1930s and moved to the Valley Forge Barr Museum.
