Description
A rare and well-detailed faience green-glazed amulet of a standing monkey, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, depicted seated with hands at side, suspension loop atop head. Unlike the baboon, the Vervet monkey was not a representation of the god Thoth. It is believed amulet of the Vervet monkey were worn with love and their sex life in both life and the afterlife. Very well-detailed and a rare find! H: 2 cm. Ex estate of Seward Kennedy, New York. Mr. Kennedy worked for decades as a lawyer for the Mobil Corporation.
