Description
An engraving after William Henry Bartlett (British, 1809-1854) titled The Presidents House, From The River. The antique hand-colored steel engraving depicts the Tiber River (now covered by Constitution Avenue) populated by multiple boats with a lush shoreline and the south elevation of the the White House. The steeple of St. John’s Church can be seen in the distance. The plate was engraved by W. Radclyffe and published in London by George Virtue in 1839. The engraving is housed in a gilt wood frame and triple matted under glass. In frame 16 1/2"x15"x3/4". Weight 2 pds 13 oz. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate
