Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800-1859) was historian, politician, and author. His History of England stands as one of the great literary works of the nineteenth century, one that has never gone out of print. As a work of history, it is deeply and extensively researched and remains one the most detailed accounts of its subject and not as partial to the Whig cause as once assumed.
Originally Macaulay was to bring his history to 1830, later scaled back to 1714, but he died after reaching only 1697.
All four volumes are dated 1856 and the fourth volume covers 1697 and has adverts after the index unlike the other three volumes.
