BOWMAN GEOFFREY HILTON: (1891-1970) Also known as Geoffrey ''Beery'' Bowman. British First World War fighter ace credited with 32 victories. Rare D.S., G.H. Bowerman Capt., being a combat report, one page, folio, Houlthulst Forest, near St. Julien, 16th September 1917, in French. The partially printed document is a typed letter report relating to Combats in the Air prepared by Captain Geoffrey Hilton Bowman following his action in a S.E.5. Aircraft, stating in part, `Crossed the lines with SE.5 formation at 11,000 ft. Whilst S.E. of Houlthulst Forest saw three E.A. above us and three E.A. below us and to the East. I turned West and the three E.A. above followed. Leader of E.A. formation dived on Lt. Maybery… Pulled down my Lewis and fired 40 rounds at just 100 yds. range… The two E.A. above came down to the three E.A. below. I dived on E.A. and fired forty rounds from both guns at one E.A. but had to clear owing to my Lewis drum being empty and my Vickers stopping (no.3) E.A. cleared steeply East…´ An excellent signed document relating directly to Bowman´s 29th Aerial Victory (from a total of 32 confirmed Victories).
