One of the important larger views from the polaroid collaborations. Nagatani's parents were both interred during World War II.
Patrick Nagatani (1945-2017) had a storied 40 year career creating a diverse body of work that pushed the contours of photography. In the 1980s he was celebrated as pioneer of the constructed photograph. Living in Los Angeles he was invited to use the 20x24" Polaroid and collaborating with the painter Andree Tracey, they planned out the sets, painted back drops, created the models, photographed scenes or people and used their pictures as props to create tableaus for the camera "to see" (1983-1989) In these works, emphasis was on the apocalyptic moment as life begins to fly apart. Here Nagatani was both the creator and director. A student of Robert Heinecken he represents the leading generation of Southern California photographers that emerged in the 1980s.
