FOREMAN HANNA Wall & Peppers, NM 1930 C 10.5x13.5" on 11x14" paper Gelatin Silver Print ASG# FH/1091 titled verso in pencil Wall & Peppers N Mex.

Foreman Hanna (1881-1950) the famous pictorialist photographer here made a lovely painterly view of shadows and chili peppers and corn strung from a portal in front of an adobe wall, with soft gray tones Hanna exhibited his pictorial prints for forty years, beginning in the mid-1910s. Based in Globe, Arizona, he made photographs of Native Americans, the southwestern landscape, and female nudes. His vocation was that of a pharmacist.

Forman Gordon Hanna was born in Windsor, Missouri, on December 21, 1881. He grew up on his father's cattle farm near Anson, Texas, and graduated from the Galveston School and University in 1904 with a pharmacy degree. He soon landed a job in Globe, Arizona, at the Palace Pharmacy, which he later bought and ran until retirement.
